Firefighters from the Richer Fire Department responded to a lawn mower fire Thursday morning along Highway 1 west of Richer.
According to a post from the department, crews were dispatched at 10:59 a.m. on June 4 after receiving a report of a lawn mower on fire at a property just west of the community.
Firefighters arrived and were able to quickly bring the fire under control before it spread into nearby vegetation or surrounding areas.
The department thanked responding members for their quick action in preventing a potentially larger incident.
Fire safety reminder
With warmer weather bringing increased outdoor work and property maintenance, the Richer Fire Department is reminding residents to regularly inspect and maintain lawn mowers and other equipment.
The department recommends removing dry grass buildup, checking fuel lines for leaks, and keeping a fire extinguisher nearby when operating machinery.
The reminder comes as fire officials continue to monitor dry conditions across the region.
Earlier this week, the RM of Ste. Anne announced it would move to a Level 1 burn ban effective June 4. Under a Level 1 burn ban, all fires must be supervised.
Fire officials are encouraging residents to burn responsibly and take precautions to help prevent grass, brush and equipment fires as temperatures continue to rise.
