Residents interested in running for school trustee in the Hanover School Division (HSD) will have a chance to learn more about the process through upcoming webinars, as officials outline key dates and requirements for this year’s school board election.
Registering to run
Rachel Klassen, senior election officer for HSD, says individuals interested in running can begin the nomination process by registering at the HSD office between June 30 and Sept. 22.
“Once registered, they will receive a packet with information about the next steps and the candidate process,” Klassen says.
“Then, they would start gathering signatures of support as part of the nomination period.”
Those registering are required to collect at least 25 signatures, although officials recommend collecting additional names in case some are deemed invalid.
Nomination papers, including signatures, must be submitted between Sept. 16 and 22.

Individuals officially become candidates once their nomination papers are accepted, and the nomination process is complete.
To be eligible to run for trustee, individuals must be a qualified voter in HSD, a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old and a resident of the division for at least six months before election day.
“If somebody is interested in running as a trustee, we encourage them to go to the Manitoba School Boards Association (MSBA) website,” says Klassen.
The school trustee election will take place Oct. 28, with advance voting scheduled for Oct. 17.
