A Manitoba-based environmental testing company is preparing to open its second location, bringing specialized laboratory services closer to homeowners, businesses and agricultural operations across southeastern Manitoba.
Manitoba company brings specialized testing services closer to Southeast communities
Duracan, founded in Winnipeg, is opening a new office and testing facility at 40 North Gate Drive in Steinbach, with a soft opening planned for May 28th and a public grand opening celebration on June 1st.
Founder Danial Kolba says Steinbach has long been part of the company’s expansion plans.
“Steinbach was always a place we wanted to go because it’s the third-largest city in Manitoba,” Kolba says. “It’s the perfect second location to set up, test the office and fine-tune everything before we continue expanding.”
Duracan specializes in environmental and hazardous materials testing, including water, soil, asbestos, mold and radon analysis. The company serves residential, commercial and agricultural clients throughout Manitoba.
Kolba says one of the company’s goals has been making testing services more accessible and practical for customers.
“Not only can we test it, we’re also one of the few operations in Canada that actually has technicians that can come right to your house to collect the sample,” he says. “Most labs don’t offer that.”
Filling a growing need
The company began five years ago, when Kolba recognized a growing need for environmental testing services in Manitoba.
“At that time, there were not many labs,” he says. “It took me about two or three years to get everything together, but once we went live for the public, it just took off.”
Since launching publicly three years ago, Duracan has experienced rapid growth, driven by increased awareness around environmental safety and indoor air quality.
The Steinbach location will help shorten turnaround times and improve convenience for customers in the Southeast, particularly those in rural communities who may rely on well water or require specialized environmental testing services.
Grand opening focused on community
While the May 28th soft opening will focus primarily on testing systems and equipment, the June 1st grand opening will have a strong community focus.
Kolba says visitors will have the opportunity to tour the new office, see some of the testing equipment firsthand and enjoy refreshments from local businesses, including Old Church Bakery and Stone City Coffee.
“We really want to bring the community together,” he says. “We’re all about community in the areas we work.”
Duracan will also be giving away prizes at their grand opening, including several draws for larger ticket items, and a gift card tree featuring local businesses.
“The prizes are pretty nice,” Kolba says. “We’d love for everyone to come down and see our new office – you might even walk out with a new TV.”
For Kolba, the Steinbach opening represents more than a business milestone – it’s part of a broader vision to continue growing across Manitoba and eventually beyond provincial borders.
But for now, he says the focus remains on building relationships in the Southeast and becoming a trusted local resource for environmental testing services.
Attend the grand opening of Duracan on Monday, June 1st – located in the Schinkel Properties building at the corner of North Gate Drive and Highway 12 north of Steinbach, where Corny Rempel will be broadcasting live on location from 11am until 1pm. You’ll be able to explore the building, meet the scientists, enjoy local baked goods and coffee, and of course enter to win prizes!
“We would love to see the general public come out and explore our beautiful new office,” invites Kolba.
