The Hanover Ag Society is set to kick off the season with one of the area’s most anticipated events as the Spring Twist Off returns Friday, June 5, blending the adrenaline of professional bull riding with the speed and precision of barrel racing.
Held at Hanover Ag Exhibition Park, the family-friendly event has become a spring tradition for many in the region, drawing packed stands and creating an atmosphere that mixes competition, entertainment and community connection.
“This is really the event that gets everyone back outside together,” says Brenda Levesque, General Manager of the Hanover Ag Society. “It sets the tone for the season. People are ready to come out, enjoy themselves and spend time with the community again.”
A little bit of everything
The Spring Twist Off is a Bull Riders Canada-sanctioned event featuring professional bull riding alongside a unique barrel racing component that has grown in popularity over the past few years.
During the bull riding performance, 10 barrel racers will compete in a special showdown after qualifying through the Spring Twist Off Barrel Racing Qualifier. The combination creates a high-energy evening that appeals to longtime rodeo fans and newcomers alike.
“You get the big, action-packed bull riding, but then you also get these incredibly fast barrel racers coming in between rounds,” Levesque explains. “It gives fans a little bit of everything.”
Levesque says adding barrel racing to the event has created a strong platform for riders while also broadening the appeal of the evening.
“It’s been really successful,” she says. “People love seeing both sides of rodeo sport in one event.”
Beyond the arena action, organizers have focused on creating an atmosphere that welcomes all ages. A dedicated family zone offers additional space and an alcohol-free seating area where children can comfortably enjoy the event.
“The kids are literally playing in the dirt while they watch,” Levesque says with a laugh. “They kind of have their own little party in the dirt.”
Children five and under receive free admission, making the event an accessible outing for families looking to start the summer season together.
Keeping the party going
Crossfire Bull Riding will once again help produce the event, bringing announcers and entertainment designed to keep the crowd energized throughout the evening.
Once the final rider leaves the arena, the night continues with the popular Party in the Dirt under the tent featuring music from Big Show Productions. Included with every Spring Twist Off ticket, the afterparty keeps the beer gardens open and gives attendees a chance to relax, dance and celebrate into the evening.
Guests interested only in attending the Party in the Dirt can purchase $20 admission at the gate.
“It’s just a really good outdoor social vibe,” says Levesque. “People sit down with friends, have a drink, listen to music and enjoy the night.”
Gates open at 6 p.m., with the main event beginning at 7 p.m. Party in the Dirt starts following the bull riding action at approximately 9:30 p.m.
General admission tickets are $35 and available through the Hanover Ag Society website. VIP table packages are also available for those wanting a closer view of the action. The Hanover Ag Society can also be reached by calling (204) 381-4366.
