The community pathway project is now underway in Ste. Anne.
Development Manager for the town John Desrochers says council committed to the project in 2025 after receiving $354,000 in funding through the Manitoba Growth, Renewal and Opportunities for Municipalities program.
“We're currently installing an active pedestrian corridor that will connect Centrale Avenue to the new Ste. Anne Co-op marketplace. With that work, we're doing a lot of LDS replacements and a lot of underground work prior to the pathway.”
He says the pathway will be approximately 10 feet wide and designed to accommodate a variety of users.
“It's designed for pedestrians, cyclists, rollerbladers, all of those things with some landscaping features to beautify the intersection.”
Desrochers says the project is an important safety improvement for the community.
“Currently pedestrians have to walk along the shoulder of the road, which is an unsafe scenario.”
Motorists travelling through the area should be aware that temporary closures and traffic disruptions may occur along portions of Centrale Avenue and Traverse Road (Highway 210) as construction crews continue work on the project.
Desrochers says the goal is to have the project completed by mid-June.
