Steinbach’s annual Summer in the City celebration is set to return in less than three weeks, with organizers promising a refreshed layout, expanded programming and a full weekend of music, food and community events.
David Klassen, main stage organizer and executive director of Steinbach Arts Council, says planning is in its final stages as crews prepare to once again block off Main Street for the popular summer kickoff event.
Main stage reconfigured to improve flow
One of the biggest changes this year will be the redesign of the main stage area, traditionally located in the Solomon’s Furniture parking lot.
Klassen says the stage and audience layout have been rotated to improve traffic flow and sightlines throughout the venue.
“We’ve turned the entire compound,” says Klassen.
“The stage will be facing a different direction, the audience will be facing a different direction, but you’re going to have the same incredible music and live performance.”

He adds that the new configuration will also help create a deeper layout rather than a wider one, improving engagement for attendees.
“We hope the sightlines will be just as good, if not better,” says Klassen.
Expanded programming and local talent
The festival will once again feature live music throughout the day and evening, with a strong focus on local performers.
“We’ve got so much local talent.”
Saturday’s free entertainment will also be extended until 8 p.m. before the evening social begins.
Music lineup and Saturday social
The country music night on Friday will feature performances from acts including Zach Riley, Saint Whiskey, Brothers Keep, Club Wagon Creek and Owen Riegling.
Saturday’s lineup will include Daniel Desorcy, Brandon Post, Irvin Miller, Endless Mixtape, SanCarlos Band, Brooke Paige & The Rumbleseat, Boss Dance Academy and DJ GeNie.
“These are top-notch artists, and we’re excited to present them,” Klassen says.
The social will also include food vendors, a 50/50 draw, silent auction and $5 drinks.
"You will be taken care of in every aspect.”
Community kickoff to summer
Klassen says the goal remains the same: bringing the community together.
“The whole point of the mainstage and these concert events is to bring community together,” he says.
“You have the performances of course, but there’s also opportunity to visit and connect with people that you know and your neighbours and your friends. This allows you to participate in every element.”
Summer in the City will feature live entertainment, food vendors, family activities and licensed events throughout the weekend of June 19 to 21.
